President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has swung into action to address the crippling power outage in Northern Nigeria, directing Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu to expedite restoration efforts. This move aims to alleviate the disruption that has brought social and economic activities to a grinding halt in the region.
In a press release issued on Monday, Bayo Onanuga, the President's adviser on information and strategy, stated that Tinubu has instructed Adelabu and relevant agencies to accelerate their work and restore electricity to all affected states in the north. This development highlights the President's commitment to tackling the nation's persistent power challenges, which have hindered economic growth and development.
Tinubu's administration has made addressing Nigeria's energy crisis a top priority, with plans to upgrade the country's power infrastructure and increase generation capacity. The President has also emphasized the importance of reliable electricity supply in driving economic transformation and improving the lives of Nigerians.
Tinubu said he was saddened by the reports of vandalism and wilful destruction of power infrastructure and other public assets, which caused the blackout.
In a meeting with Adelabu, who briefed on efforts by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to repair the damaged Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines, the president directed a long-term solution to the problem.
